The Brazilian rain tree is a hardwood legume that goes by the Latin name Pithecellobium tortum. Like most of its relatives this tree has compound leaves, hard wood and is very spiny. The delicate branches feature tiny light-green compound leaves and spines. The leaves fold up at night or in subdued light and unfolds in the morning light. It has attractive flowers that appear as fragrant white puffy blossoms. Easy indoor care makes this interesting rainforest tree a great bonsai for beginners.

Great tree … healthy, good looking, and thriving … just wish they didn’t use Styrofoam peanuts when they shipped it. I was quite nervous buying this online. The reviews for the vendor are a bit mixed, but I figured on average they were positive and it was worth a try. Great & Healthy Tree! This is by far my favorite tree!It’s reaction to the environment is what makes it so cool, but that also means it shows stress from shipping and moving at first. When I first received it, the tree was stressed from shipping and slowly dropped leaves (about half total) for around 2 weeks while it recovered and adapted to the new environment.
