The Pony Tail Palm is not actually a palm; this native of southeastern Mexico is actually a member of the lily family and, also goes by the names Bottle Palm and Elephant’s Foot because of its bulbous base. Ponytails make great indoor Bonsais and, are ideal for beginners who desire a slow growing, low maintenance plant for home, office or anywhere. Considered extremely hardy, they do well in either bright, indirect, or full sun; making it a bonsai to sit back and enjoy. Simply providing light and a little water will ensure that this plant will flourish for years. The Ponytail Palm has a unique feature in the swollen base of the trunk, which is where it stores a reserve of water making it highly tolerant to drought. Plant is much too large for the pot The palm itself showed up in good condition with just a few yellow leaves. The bulbous base of the trunk seems to be too big for the little pot it comes in and looks like it already needs to be re-potted; the pot also has a good-sized crack down one side, but I don’t think it’s worth trying to send it back. There’s also a thick unsightly wire wrapped around the trunk right at the soil line, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with that but I can’t get the soil to stay in place to try and cover…
My favorite Brussel’s When my pony arrived, the pot was shattered into several pieces. This is my 4th Brussels plant and the only shipping problem so far. The plant was unhurt and looked perfect. I called Brussels’s customer service and explained the situation. They shipped the same day with a larger pot and a 2qt bag of bonsai soil (not standard potting dirt).
